Central High School Wins Beautification Award
Angelina Beautiful/Clean (AB/C) honored Central High School with a Beautification Award. An award presentation took place at their school campus located at 7622 US-69 in Pollock.
The Beautification Award is an environmental award program that recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership in protecting or enhancing our local environment. This is in recognition of achievement in helping to beautify the Angelina County area by landscaping, building improvement and other means which enhances the beauty of our Deep East Texas community.
Central High School was recognized for their achievement in investing into our local economy with this award from Angelina Beautiful/Clean. The entrance to the school featured some plain stonework and a flagpole which the art department were tasked with enhancing. Superintendent, Justin Risner, was inspired by stone mosaics that the art director, Amy Jones, was doing with her students. From planning to project completion, the art installation took about a year and a half to complete and is now a new permanent welcoming piece that can be enjoyed for years to come.
Per Jennifer La Corte, AB/C Executive Director, “We love to see the innovative ways that schools get students involved in the community. This beautification project is something that not only provided an artistic outlet to be displayed but also helps to create such a welcoming atmosphere that adds to the entrance of the school. It makes it feel like a whole new space and the best part of it is that it is a lasting impression that these students get to leave behind long after they graduate.”
