[Lufkin, TX – September 9, 2020] Angelina Beautiful/Clean (AB/C) presented the Lufkin Landscape Task Force (LLTF) with a Beautification Award for their “Wall of Champions” mural. The award presentation took place at the site of the mural between South First Street and West Frank Avenue in downtown Lufkin. The award was presented by members of the Angelina Beautiful/Clean Board of Directors and the September Beautification sponsor, Brookshire Brothers.
The Beautification Award is an environmental award program that recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership in protecting or enhancing our local environment. This is in recognition of achievement in helping to beautify the Angelina County area through building improvements, and any other means which enhances the beauty of our Deep East Texas community.
The Lufkin Landscape Task Force commissioned local artist Byron Jones to turn the bare white wall facing Frank St and create a showstopping piece of artwork that commemorates the Lufkin Little League Champions: The Thundering 13 and The Fierce 14s. By using the wall as a canvas, LLTF and Byron Jones have completely transformed the space and created a great attraction in downtown Lufkin.
Per Emily Thornton, AB/C Executive Director, “This project is such a great addition to our downtown landscape and is such a showstopping piece of artwork. Byron Jones’ mural is not only a reflection of these boy’s achievement, but also the love and support that can be found here in Lufkin, Tx. Angelina Beautiful/Clean is so proud of the project, and it is such an honor to award the Lufkin Landscape Task Force with our September Beautification Award.”
